Describing the situation as unacceptable, the unions warned that continued non-remittance threatens the financial sustainability of the agencies responsible for ensuring safe air travel in Nigeria.

In a statement issued yesterday by his media office, Senate Leader, OPEYEMI BAMIDELEsaid the proposed constitutional amendment clearly defines the responsibilities of both the federal and state police to reduce operational conflicts and enhance security coordination.

The Army Chief noted that the country’s security challenges now extend beyond insurgency, terrorism and banditry to include cyber warfare, transnational organized crime, resource-related conflicts and technology-driven threats.

The payment, announced today by the Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate, PTAD, covers outstanding liabilities owed to pensioners of the defunct Nigerian Telecommunications Limited, NITEL Mobile Telecommunications Limited, MTEL Power Holding Company of Nigeria, Assurance Bank, NICON and the defunct People’s Bank of Nigeria.

The appeal was made by the Special Assistant to the President on Climate Change Matters, YUSSUF KELANI, who said the recent flooding in Lagos and other parts of the country should serve as a wake-up call for governments, communities and citizens to prioritise disaster preparedness and climate resilience.
