The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has established a formal complaints channel for applicants who were screened out after making the shortlist. Comptroller-General Bashir Adewale Adeniyi has ordered a case-by-case review of affected candidates.
In response to growing public concern and agitation from affected candidates, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced a formal review process for applicants who were screened out of its recent recruitment exercise.
The decision was disclosed in an official press statement issued on October 19, 2026, signed by the Chief Public Relations Officer, CSC Abdullahi Maiwada.
The intervention comes after the Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, met personally with a delegation of aggrieved candidates who had been turned away from proceeding to the Customs Training College despite their names appearing on the official shortlist.

Addressing concerns raised by candidates, the Service clarified that inclusion in the initial shortlist does not automatically guarantee final enlistment into the agency.
The NCS explained that recruitment involves multiple stringent verification stages. During the physical and medical evaluations, 397 applicants were disqualified for failing to meet statutory requirements:
Substance Abuse Screening: Drug tests identified illicit substance use (excluding cigarettes and alcohol).
Documentary Irregularities: Discrepancies involving age falsification, credential irregularities, and missing mandatory document checks.
Medical & Physical Fitness: Failure to satisfy physical endurance assessments and baseline medical health checks.
Procedural Flaws: Selection irregularities identified during physical verification stages.
To ensure transparency and address legitimate grievances, CGC Adeniyi has approved a case-by-case reappraisal process.
Submission Email: Aggrieved candidates are advised to send detailed letters of complaint and supporting documentation directly to helpdesk@customs.gov.ng.
Fresh Screening Mandate: Candidates who take advantage of this new review window will undergo a fresh screening process.
Legal Warning: The Service warned that the review does not constitute an automatic admission or a waiver of standards. Where investigations reveal criminal offenses—such as forgery or certificate fraud—the individuals involved will be referred for immediate prosecution.
The Service urged all affected candidates to remain calm and utilize only official, designated channels to lodge their appeals.
As public service recruitment processes in Nigeria face increasing demand for transparency, the decision by the Nigeria Customs Service to open a dedicated appeal portal sets an important precedent for institutional accountability. For job seekers who have previously navigated public sector recruitment hurdles, do you believe this case-by-case reappraisal model will effectively restore candidate confidence?
