Want to change your NYSC deployment state? Here is an official guide on approved NYSC redeployment grounds (marital, health, security), required documents, and a step-by-step tutorial on applying online via the NYSC portal.
For thousands of prospective corps members, receiving an NYSC call-up letter to a distant or unfamiliar state can come as a surprise. Fortunately, the National Youth Service Corps management provides a legal, structured mechanism for corps members to apply for relocation (also called redeployment) to a different state.
However, NYSC relocation is not automatic—nor is it granted simply for personal convenience. To ensure your application is approved, you must apply under officially recognized grounds, provide authentic supporting documentation, and follow the correct online application procedure.
Here is a complete, reliable guide on how to navigate the NYSC online relocation process.

The NYSC bye-laws recognize three primary conditions under which a corps member can legally request redeployment:
To keep families together, married female corps members are legally permitted to relocate to the state where their husband resides and works.
Who qualifies: Exclusively married female corps members.
Required Supporting Documents:
Official Marriage Certificate (Court/Registry Certificate, Church, or Mosque certificate).
Proof of Change of Name (Newspaper publication or sworn court affidavit).
Formal Letter of Domicile/Residence confirming the husband’s current state of residence.
Husband’s valid Government-Issued ID (NIN, International Passport, or Driver’s Licence).
Employer’s Introduction Letter or Recent Utility Bill showing the husband’s home address.
Corps members suffering from severe or chronic health conditions that require specialized care, long-term monitoring, or specific climatic environments can apply for redeployment.
Who qualifies: Corps members with documented, severe medical conditions (e.g., severe asthma, sickle cell anemia, chronic cardiovascular conditions, or ailments requiring frequent tertiary hospital care).
Required Supporting Documents:
An authentic, comprehensive Medical Report issued by a recognized Federal or State General/Teaching Hospital.
The medical report must be signed and stamped by a qualified medical practitioner, detailing the nature of the condition and recommended medical care.
If a corps member is deployed to an area facing active insurgency, severe civil unrest, or localized security threats, NYSC permits relocation to a safer state on safety grounds.
Who qualifies: Corps members deployed to high-risk zones.
Note: Depending on current NYSC administrative guidelines, high-demand commercial hubs like Lagos, FCT Abuja, or a corps member’s native State of Origin may be restricted when applying purely under general security grounds, and applicants may be posted to neighboring safe states instead.

You can apply for relocation during the Orientation Camp period or through the NYSC online portal after state codes are assigned. Follow these exact steps:
Visit the official NYSC portal (portal.nysc.org.ng).
Log in using your registered Email Address and Password.
On your dashboard, locate and click on the “Apply for Relocation” link (usually positioned above your profile photograph once the portal window opens).
Select Reason: Choose your specific, valid ground for relocation (Marital, Health, or Security).
Provide Description: Write a brief, factual explanation detailing why you require redeployment. Keep it concise, polite, and directly aligned with your supporting documents.
Select Preferred State: Choose your requested destination state from the drop-down menu.
Scan and upload all required documents (Marriage certificate, Medical report, Husband’s ID, etc.).
Formatting Requirement: Ensure every uploaded file is crisp, legible, and within the portal’s size limit (typically under 200KB per image/PDF).
Review your details carefully and click Submit.
Log back into your portal periodically to monitor your Relocation Status.
Pay the Administrative Printing Fee: Once approved on your portal, you will be prompted to make a nominal online payment (approx. ₦1,000 via Remita) to print your official approval slip.
Print Your Relocation Letter: Print out a clean colored copy of your NYSC Relocation Approval Letter.
Report to Your New State Secretariat: Travel to the NYSC Secretariat in your new state of deployment within the stipulated timeframe (usually within 21 days).
Complete Documentation: Bring your Relocation Letter, NYSC ID Card, Green Card, Academic Certificate, and Passport Photographs for physical verification and issuance of your new State Code and Place of Primary Assignment (PPA) letter.
Falsified or Incomplete Documents: Uploading forged medical reports, unverified marriage documents, or low-resolution scans results in immediate rejection.
Applying Outside Official Windows: Submitting applications during restricted administrative blackout periods (e.g., during the final 90 days of the service year) will lead to refusal.
Invalid Reasons: Requesting relocation simply for personal comfort, social life, or unverified job offers is not recognized by NYSC management.
State Quota Saturated: Destination states like Lagos and FCT Abuja have strictly regulated corps member quotas. If the destination state is full, relocation may be declined or diverted.
