Former National chairman of All Progressives Grand Alliance APGA, and senatorial candidate of the Labor Party LP for Anambra Central, Victor Umeh, says the federal government has no reason to continue to keep the leader of the Proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra Nnamdi Kanu, after the Court of Appeal judgment.

The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja on Thursday discharged Kanu of terrorism charges, but the attorney general of the federation and minister of justice Abubakar Malami said the judgment of the court does not quash other charges against him before he left Nigeria in 2017.

Umeh in an interview with journalists said the federal government has no reason to continue to keep him, adding that the news of the Court of Appeal judgment is very soothing and gladdening, in the sense that the federal government of Nigeria has been given a golden opportunity to bring to an end the controversy between IPOB and the federal government of Nigeria.

The Labor Party chieftain who also spoke on the press release from Malami, which insisted that Kanu had other cases to answer said the recent judgment setting him free was a window for the federal government to embrace peace, and to help solve the security problem in the South East.
