Turntable Charts has announced the launch of the No. 1 award program for the celebration of artistic achievements in Nigerian music, designed and made eligible for all those involved in the creation of a No.1 single in the country based on the weekly Turntable Nigeria Top 100 which combines all streaming platforms and airplay across the country.

Artists both lead & featured, producers, engineers, and studio personnel, record labels, A&Rs, music distributors, and managers of talents which are often overlooked in music celebrations in this part of the world are also eligible for the No. 1 award

YBNL boys Fireboy Dml and Asake are the first recipients of the award for their respective chart-topping singles bandana and peace be unto you.

Bandana which is still the No. 1 song in the country, has spent five consecutive weeks atop the Nigeria Top 100; while peace be unto you became the first song to reach No. 1 on the Turntable Nigeria Top 100 which was launched on July 11, 2022.

A record label has cut ties with an Artificial Intelligence AI rapper FN Meka after criticism it contained racial stereotypes, including repeated use of the N-word.

Fn Meka is an artificial intelligence musician given the appearance of a black male cyborg, but Capitol Music Group CMG faced a backlash for signing the rapper.

In a statement announcing they had severed ties, CMG offered its deepest apologies to the black community for their insensitivity.

Fn Meka currently has more than 500,000 monthly Spotify subscribers and more than one billion views on its Tiktok account, while its Instagram account, which has more than 220,000 followers, has been made private.
