The Academic Staff Union of Universities ASUU is scheduled to meet with Federal Government representatives today over its prolonged strike action.
The President of ASUU, Professor Emmanuel Osodeke on a television interview yesterday said the meeting was to discuss one of seven issues ASUU is protesting over,
Osodeke suggested that if today’s meeting goes well, the strike action may be called off.
Catholic priest and Deputy Registrar of Spiritan University Umunneochi, in Abia State, Chinedu Nwadike and a seminarian who were abducted on Friday along the Okigwe- Umunneochi axis of the Enugu- Port Harcourt Expressway, have regained their freedom.
The victims regained their freedom Sunday evening and was made public yesterday evening with the release broken by a relation of the priest, Abuchi Anueyiagu, on his Facebook page who said their release was not without ransom
Their abductors suspected to be herders on rampage around Umunneochi/Okigwe axis, had demanded 50 million Naira ransom shortly after their abduction.
When contacted, Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO in charge of Abia State, Geoffrey Ogbonna, said he was not yet aware of the release and can’t confirm whether the Divisional Crime Officer DCO, in charge of Umunneochi Divisional Police station, abducted earlier on Thursday had been killed or not.
