PRESIDENT TINUBU UNVEILS FOUR-YEAR PLAN TO END CHILD LABOUR

President BOLA TINUBU has declared the elimination of child labour a national development priority, saying the practice affects education, poverty reduction, economic growth, food security and national security.

President TINUBU made the declaration in Abuja at a national dialogue on the implementation of Nigeria’s National Child Labour Policy and Action Plan for 2026 to 2030.

The president who was represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, GEORGE AKUME, said the Federal Government would intensify efforts to tackle the root causes of child labour, highlighting poverty, unemployment, poor access to quality education and social exclusion among the factors pushing children into work.

He also highlighted the Renewed Hope National Home-Grown School Feeding Programme and other initiatives designed to support vulnerable families and improve household incomes, stating that his administration would strengthen labour inspection, child protection systems and social support programmes aimed at keeping children in school
