President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Dies At 80

The president General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, George Obiozor has died at the age of 80 following a reported struggle with a heart-related disease.

The governor of Imo state Hope Uzodimma in a statement, titled, Imo State Government Obituary Announcement, yesterday night said he sorrowfully announce the passage of a great Son of Imo state and Nigeria, the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, worldwide, Professor George Obiozor.

Uzodimma said the death of the foremost Igbo leader and former Nigeria’s ambassador to the United States and the State of Israel, is a big loss to Imo state and the South East, adding that he does not doubt that both Nigeria and the international community will miss his profound intellectual contributions and wise counsel on national and global issues.

According to the statement, his burial arrangements will be announced in due course by the family.

A highly placed chieftain of Ohanaeze confirmed that Obiozor died on December 26th.
