The Nigeria’s First Lady OLUREMI TINUBU has called on relevant authorities to ensure that the rights, dignity, and freedoms of Nigerian citizens are protected, stating that democracy can only thrive when the interest of the citizens remains priority to the government.

OLUREMI made the call in a message to mark the 2026 International Day of Democracy, themed, “Bring Human Rights into Focus”.

In the message, she noted that more than 25 years of uninterrupted democratic rule had recorded significant progress across the country, citing stronger institutions, peaceful transitions of power and increased citizen participation in governance.

While congratulating Nigerians on the occasion, the first lady also urged citizens to sustain collective efforts in strengthening democracy through continued commitment to democratic values and the protection of human rights.
