Nigeria and Cameroon have launched a joint assessment of the Ekok-Mfum One-Stop Border Post as part of measures to ease cross-border trade, strengthen security and improve economic cooperation between both countries.
The exercise, involving customs officials, security agencies, technical experts and representatives of border communities, is expected to reduce delays and eliminate repeated checks during the movement of goods and travellers.
The Comptroller-General of Customs, ADEWALE ADENIYI, said the initiative would be established on the existing relationship between the two countries and support wider regional integration
The assessment also led to the launch of the Mfum-Ekok Border Modernisation Initiative, which will focus on digital customs procedures, improved infrastructure and coordinated border management.
The project is expected to boost legitimate trade along the Nigeria-Cameroon corridor and support the objectives of the African Continental Free Trade Area
