The newly sworn-in Sole Administrator for Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-ete Ibas has promised to maintain law and order in the crisis-hit oil rich state.

Addressing newsmen yesterday after being sworn in by President Bola Tinubu at the State House in Abuja, Ibas said they were aware of the circumstances that led to their current situation, and the President had made it clear in his broadcast.

The retired naval chief vowed to collaborate with other stakeholders to help bring peace, order, security, and stability to the people and government of Rivers State and Nigeria as a whole.

A Public Affairs Analyst, Chigozie Anarado, has condemned President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State, alleging it to be a ploy to install his loyalists in power.

Anarado, stated this yesterday during the urban radio flagship programme, ‘The Parliament, stressing that the Constitution does not give the President authority to remove a democratically elected Governor.

Similarly, an Enugu-based legal practitioner, CD Ogbe also noted that the presumed lawlessness behind President Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency was baseless, adding that there is no imminent breakdown of law and order in Rivers State.

Austin from Enugu, who called in during the programme, suggested that the president should have amicably resolved the political crisis in Rivers State instead of suspending the governor and his deputy.

President Bola Tinubu yesterday 18th March, 2025 declared a state of emergency in Rivers State, suspending Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy Ngozi Odu over the prevailing political tension in the state.
