The Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola says Nigeria needs 1.2trillion Naira for roads and bridges but the government is only able to provide 198.9 billion Naira.

The former Governor of Lagos State while appearing to defend the budget of his ministry before the House of Representatives Committee on Works yesterday, lamented the difference between the cost of highways and the envelope budget provided by the government.

He stated that in some instances, Federal Government provides 100 million Naira for roads that cost over 20 billion Naira, adding that the disparity has huge debt owed to road contractors to the tune of over 700 billion Naira.

Fashola informed the lawmakers that the government made interventions in various tertiary Institutions in the Country, completing a total of 85.46km of roads.
