Peter Nwachukwu, husband of late popular Nigerian gospel singer, Osinachi, has been sentenced to death by hanging.

Justice Njideka Nwosu-Iheme of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT High Court in Abuja, yesterday sentenced Peter Nwachukwu to death by hanging having found him guilty of culpable homicide resulting in the death of his wife, Osinachi, on April 8, 2022.

Nwachukwu was brought before the court on June 3, 2022 over a 23-count charge bordering on homicide, criminal intimidation, cruelty to children and spouse, criminal intimidation of children and spousal battery, filed against him by the Office of Attorney-General of the Federation, OAGF.

In her judgment, Justice Nwosu-Iheme held that the prosecution had proven its case beyond a reasonable doubt, and following pleas for leniency from Nwachukwu’s counsel, Reginald Nwali, the court nevertheless sentenced him to death by hanging on Count 1.

He also received additional prison sentences ranging from six months to three years on several other counts and was fined a total of 700,000 Naira.
