Former governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, has withdrawn from contesting for the presidential ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP and announced his resignation from the party.

He announced his withdrawal from the party’s primary in a letter dated May 24 and addressed to the National Chairman of the main opposition party Iyorchia Ayu.

He explained that he took the decision to leave the party because of his firm commitment to rescue Nigeria, even if the route differs.

Although Obi said it was a great honor to contribute to nation-building efforts through PDP, he complained that the recent developments within the party have made it practically impossible for him to continue participating and making such constructive contributions.

The presidential aspirant informed the PDP chairman that he has since conveyed his resignation and withdrawal from the primary to the Chairman of Agulu Ward 2, his ward in Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State.
