Justice Z.B. Abubakar of the Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, to release Solomon Onyegbule, a supporter to the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu.

In a statement issued by a lawyer to Kanu, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, revealed that Justice Abubakar while delivering judgment yesterday filed on behalf of Solomon Onyegbule, directed the Inspector-General of Police to unconditionally release Onyegbule from their custody.

The court further awarded the sum of 50 million naira to Onyegbule as compensatory and exemplary damages and also ordered the Inspector General of Police to tender a public apology to Onyegbule in one national newspaper.

Kanu’s lawyer vowed that his team would continue to ensure that all Igbos who were unlawfully detained in various areas of the security agencies in different parts of the country are freed and compensated.
