A development scientist Chigozie Anarado has said that oil theft and vandalism in Nigeria, is a complex mechanical process that can only be perpetrated by political elites and high-ranking security officers in the country.

Chigozie, who disclosed this as a guest on the Urban Radio political program The Parliament, said that no ordinary Nigerian could bypass the technicalities of the oil pipelines without conspiratorial aid from highly placed individuals.

He also expressed doubt about the ability of the senate committee to effectively combat the issue, stating that the members of the committee set up by the parliament, may end up seeking means to profit from the situation.

Mark from Enugu, who called in to contribute to the program, criticized the Federal government and Navy for failing to provide adequate security at the locations of oil theft, as well as the award of oil security contracts to some renowned militants.
