Professional Nigerian dancer and choreographer Benjamin Daniel Gabriel, popularly known as “Ben Dancer,” has successfully completed a grueling 168-hour continuous dance marathon at Freedom Park on Lagos Island. The seven-day performance was staged in an ambitious effort to claim the official Guinness World Record for the longest dance marathon by an individual.

The 33-year-old dancer, who boasts over 18 years of professional choreography experience, launched his marathon campaign at Freedom Park aiming to eclipse the standing world record of 127 hours established in 2023 by India’s Srushti Sudhir Jagtap.

Daniel’s marathon showcase was designed to bring global visibility to Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage and indigenous dance forms. Throughout his seven days on stage, he incorporated a wide array of musical genres and dance styles into his routine—including Afrobeats, fuji, highlife, jazz, and zouk—while performing in traditional attire such as agbada and dashiki.

Operating strictly under official Guinness World Records guidelines, the performance permitted five minutes of rest for every continuous hour of activity. Daniel strategicially accumulated these rest periods in blocks to manage physical recovery, light nutrition, and hydration under the supervision of an on-site medical team.

The marathon quickly grew into a public cultural celebration, drawing crowds of supporters, dance enthusiasts, and guest appearances from prominent public figures—including Afrobeat musician Made Kuti—to Freedom Park.

Following the conclusion of the 168-hour mark, Daniel was taken for routine medical evaluation. His technical team is currently compiling complete logbooks, video footage, independent witness statements, and medical reports for submission to Guinness World Records for formal verification and official title certification.
