The Chief of Army Staff, WAIDI SHAIBU, has appealed to leaders, parents, guardians and elders in the South-East to encourage young men and women in the region to enlist in the Nigerian Army, saying the zone has yet to fully utilise its recruitment quota.

SHAIBU made the appeal during the passing-out parade of 90 Regular Recruits and 2,989 newly recruited soldiers at the Nigerian Army Recruit Training Depot in Amasiri-Edda, Afikpo and Edda Local Government Areas of Ebonyi State.

The Army Chief expressed concern over the low enlistment of people from the South-East into the military, describing the trend as unacceptable and urging the region to take advantage of available recruitment opportunities.

He described military service as more than a career, saying it is a noble calling that embodies patriotism, leadership and national service, while urging the people of the zone to embrace the newly established military training depot as their own.

SHAIBU further appealed to community leaders, parents, guardians and elders across the zone to encourage young men and women to regard the depot as their own and step forward to serve in the Nigerian Army.
