FORMER DIRECTOR OF NBC URGES MEDIA HOUSES TO BE ETHICAL IN DISSEMINATION OF INFORMATION

The former director of the National Broadcasting Corporation (NBC), in acting capacity and a Professor of Mass Communication, Amstrong Aduku Idachaba has charged the media to always uphold the ethics of the profession in the dissemination of information.


Idachaba stated this yesterday during his inaugural lecture at Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu, with the theme: Mediated Convergencies Cosmo-Philosophical Ideologies and The Building Of a Modern Nigeria.


Describing the media as a point of convergence, Idachaba questioned the kind of values propagated through the media, stressing that they should able to build a better country.


He therefore proposed a united humanity and called on the government to adopt a media content philosophy, where the rights and privileges of every individual will be respected.


Meanwhile, the first female professor of mass communication, Professor Chinyere Okunna, warned consumers of media messages to always verify to avoid disinformation.


Urban radio correspondent, Ifeoma Nwabufor who was at inaugural lecture said the event was well attended by academics, including the vice chancellor of Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu, Prof. Christain Aneke, the Vice Chancellor, Federal University, Kashere, Gombe State, Professor Umaru Pate among others.
