Former Imo State Governor and lawmaker representing Imo West, ROCHAS OKOROCHA, has instituted a suit against the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, the All Progressives Congress, APC, and Governor HOPE UZODINMA over the publication of UZODINMA’s name as the APC candidate for the 2027 Imo West Senatorial election.

OKOROCHA, through his lawyer, O.J. ABOJE, filed the suit, asking the Federal High Court to determine the validity of INEC’s publication of UZODINMA as the winner of the APC senatorial primary.

In the suit, OKOROCHA contested the publication, maintaining that he won the APC primary held on May 18 to select the party’s candidate for the senatorial election.

He is also asking the court to determine whether INEC was bound by reports submitted by its officials who monitored the primary and whether UZODINMA was qualified to be published as the APC candidate while still serving as governor, in view of Section 183 of the 1999 Constitution, as amended.

OKOROCHA is seeking an order nullifying the publication of UZODINMA’s name and directing INEC to recognise and publish his name as the duly nominated APC candidate, while also restraining UZODINMA from presenting himself as the party’s candidate and awarding costs against the respondents.
