Arsenal last night thrashed PSV Eindhoven 7-1, to secure a dominant advantage, to head into the second leg of their Champions League last-16 clash.
Ismael Saibari struck the crossbar early for the hosts, but Arsenal seized control after Jurrien Timber scored the opening goal in the 18th minute and three minutes later Ethan Nwaneri doubled Arsenal’s advantage as Myles Lewis-Skelly smartly pulled the ball back for the 17-year-old to significantly score past Walter Benitez.
Mikel Merino scored a third goal for Arsenal after a defensive blunder, before Noa Lang converted a penalty for PSV after Thomas Partey fouled Luuk De Jong.
However, during the second half, Martin Odegaard, scored from close range after Benitez pushed a cross out into the area and Calafiori thereafter combined well with Leandro Trossard who chipped the ball over Benitez from close range to score Arsenal’s fifth goal just one minute later.
Consequently, Odegaard scored his second goal before Calafiori grabbed a goal late on, ending the game at 7-1 as Arsenal registered their record away win in the Champions League.
