The federal government has begged the Academic Staff Union of Universities ASUU to accept the Integrated Payroll and Personnel information system IPPIS with the promise of improving the payment platform to fit the needs of the lecturers.
The Accountant General of the Federation, Sylvia Okolieaboh, in his plea yesterday during the meeting between the union and the federal government at the House of Representatives led by Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila said the government will accommodate the union on the issue of salaries in a bid to end the strike.
Okolieaboh insisted that the government is concerned over the ripple effect of allowing ASUU to have a separate payment platform from others, adding that they are willing to make an adjustment to the IPPIS to address the peculiarities in the salaries system.
He said that adopting University Transparency and Accountability Solution UTAS might prompt unpleasant requests from other agencies to be paid in their own salary structure, urging ASUU to come up with any homegrown solution, assuring that the government would abide by it.
