Reactions have continued to trail the demolition of the building materials section of the popular Kenyatta Market, in Enugu South Local Government market by the officials of Enugu Capital Territory Development Authority Ectda.
Barring her mind on the matter, the senatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress APC for Enugu East Senatorial District, Princess Ada Ogbu, during her visit to the market described the demolition as bullying of the highest order, because the essence of government is to guarantee the welfare of the people.
Also reacting to the development, the All Progressives Grand Alliance APGA Gubernatorial Candidate in Enugu State Frank Nweke Jr. who said that he rushed to the market on receiving the news of the demolition, described the action as inhuman, arguing that the destruction of means of livelihood of the people has no place where good governance is practiced.
Speaking at the scene of the demolition, the Chairman of Ectda, Josef Onoh, said that the exercise was a development control measure due to the congestion of the city, explaining further that the area where the traders converted into a market was originally a place given to National Youth Council of Nigeria NYCN for Youth capacity development and recreation.
