Attending the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camp is a major milestone for every Nigerian graduate. While the anticipation of meeting new people, experiencing camp drills, and starting your service year is exciting, nothing can derail your initial days faster than missing a vital document during registration.
Although much of the initial process is completed online, physical documentation and verification at camp remain strictly mandatory. Requirements can also vary slightly depending on whether you are a locally trained or foreign-trained graduate.
To help you scale through camp registration seamlessly and avoid unnecessary stress, here is a well-detailed, reliable breakdown of the 10 essential documents you must take to your NYSC orientation camp.

Your call-up letter is arguably the most critical document you will carry to camp. Issued by the NYSC directorate, it outlines your deployment state, assigned orientation camp, and specific reporting instructions.
What to do: If you subscribed to the online service, you can print your call-up letter directly from your dashboard. Otherwise, collect it physically through your institution’s student affairs division. Ensure you print multiple clean copies.
The Green Card is a printed summary of your complete online registration details. It is heavily relied upon by camp officials during physical documentation and verification to cross-check your bio-data.
What to do: Print out at least two clear copies of your Green Card and keep them safely filed in your clearance folder.
Your tertiary institution’s identity card serves as an immediate, supplementary means of identification before your NYSC ID card is issued on camp.
What to do: Bring along your original school ID card. It is also wise to keep a couple of photocopies handy, as some registration desks may request them.
Proof of graduation is non-negotiable.
For Locally Trained Graduates: You must present the official academic document issued by your institution—specifically your Statement of Result or your original Degree/HND certificate.
For Foreign-Trained Graduates: Be aware that the NYSC enforces stricter criteria. Foreign graduates must present original academic credentials, transcripts, and evaluation letters for physical verification. Official guidelines explicitly state that downloaded certificates, provisional transcripts, and unverified statements of result are not accepted for foreign-trained graduates.
Before heading to camp, you are required to prove that you are medically fit to participate in the rigorous orientation activities.
What to do: Obtain a Medical Fitness Certificate from an approved government, military, or teaching hospital. Ensure the document explicitly meets the instructions and validity guidelines specified for your particular NYSC batch.
Aside from your school ID, having a universally recognized national identity document is compulsory for security and verification purposes.
What to do: Carry a valid ID such as your National Identification Number (NIN) slip or physical card, a valid driver’s licence, or your international passport. Having a backup ID prevents complications during security screening and registration queues.
Even though you uploaded a passport photograph during your online registration, digital systems can fail, and camp officials frequently require physical photographs for various state code, platoon, and administrative files.
What to do: Carry a generous supply of recent passport photographs (preferably against a white or red background, as standard for official documents). Having extra copies saves you from the inflated costs and stress of running to a camp cybercafe.
Married female corps members who applied for concessional postings to be deployed to their husband’s state of domicile must back up their claims with official documentation.
What to do: Ensure your pack includes your official marriage certificate, formal evidence of a name change (if applicable), and your husband’s valid means of identification and proof of domicile.
If your deployment involves special dispensations, you must bring the official paper trail:
Health Grounds: If you applied for relocation or concessional posting on health grounds, you must provide a comprehensive medical report issued by a Federal or State General Hospital, complete with the attending doctor’s name, stamp, and medical registration details.
Professional Licences: Medical doctors, pharmacists, nurses, lawyers, and other regulated professionals must bring their professional registration documents and practicing licences. NYSC strictly mandates medical professionals to present their valid licences at camp.
Never rely solely on photocopies, and never risk traveling with only your originals.
What to do: Create a well-organized folder containing your original documents alongside at least 5 to 10 clear photocopies of each vital document (Call-up letter, Green Card, Statement of Result, ID card, and LGA certificate of origin). Physical verification is rigorous, and having spare photocopies ensures you never get stranded when different camp committees request independent sets of your credentials.
As you prepare to depart for camp, keep your documents dry and protected by storing them inside a waterproof file or transparent document bag. Arrive at your orientation camp early on your designated reporting day to complete your documentation smoothly and secure a comfortable accommodation spot in your platoon hostel.
Have a safe, impactful, and memorable service year!
