Troops of the Joint Task Force, Operation Hadin Kai, have rescued 92 civilians abducted by Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province terrorists along the Buratai–Kamuya Road in Biu Local Government Area of Borno State.

A statement issued yesterday by the Media Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force (North-East) Operation Hadin Kai, SANI UBA, said the rescue operation carried out over the weekend also led to the recovery of eight vehicles and the detonation of three improvised explosive devices, IEDs, planted by the fleeing insurgents.

The military disclosed that troops of the 135 Special Forces Battalion deployed at Dutse Kura discovered the insurgents forcing civilians and vehicles off the road into nearby bush paths and immediately deployed a Quick Reaction Force, while reinforcement troops from the 27 Task Force Brigade Garrison were mobilised to support the operation.

The statement added that the Explosive Ordnance Disposal team detected three IEDs planted along the Bula Zarma-Mangari axis and successfully detonated the explosives, enabling troops to continue the pursuit for about five kilometres beyond the Mangari area.

According to the statement, the troops engaged the insurgents in combat and forced them to abandon the captives and flee, leading to the rescue of all 92 kidnapped victims, comprising 52 males, 33 females, and seven children, who were later provided with immediate welfare support before being escorted to Damaturu in Yobe State, where they were allowed to continue their journey.
