NSCDC ARRESTS THREE SUSPECTS OVER ALLEGED ILLEGAL SAND MINING IN ANAMBRA STATE

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Anambra State Command, has arrested three people identified as  PATRICK ANPUE,  CHIDUBEM UGAMMADU,   and CHUKWUMA IGWE over alleged illegal mining of sharp sand at the Obiaja River, along the Nnobi-Ideani Junction, Uke Road, in Idemili South Local Government Area of the state.

The State Commandant, MAKU OLATUNDE, disclosed this during a media briefing at the command’s headquarters in Awka, stating that the suspects were apprehended by operatives of the Mines and Steel Development Unit in partnership with the Federal Mines Office in the State.

OLATUNDE said the operation was carried out following credible intelligence on unregulated mining activities at the river.

The suspects were arrested at the mining site, while items recovered during the operation were taken into custody for further investigation
