National Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and former Governor of Bayelsa State, SERIAKE DICKSON, has acknowledged shortcomings in the conduct of the party’s primary elections while rejecting claims that the party is facing an internal crisis.
Speaking during an interview, DICKSONadmitted that certain aspects of the primary election process fell short of expectations and had generated dissatisfaction among some party members, but he attributed many of the challenges to the direct primary system, which he said has posed operational difficulties for both established and emerging political parties across the country.
Despite the concerns, DICKSON dismissed suggestions that the NDC is experiencing internal turmoil, insisting that the heightened level of competition within the party is a sign of growth and increasing political relevance.
His comments come amid increasing complaints from aspirants in several states who have alleged irregularities in the party’s nomination process and called for greater transparency in the conduct of internal elections.
