Senate President Dismisses Calls for Presidential Power Handover

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has rejected calls demanding that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu formally transfer power to Vice President Kashim Shettima during the President’s extended working vacation abroad.

Addressing attendees at a project inauguration in Akwa Ibom State, Akpabio maintained that there is no leadership vacuum in the executive arm, asserting that “there is no vacancy in Aso Rock.” He emphasized that digital governance tools enable the President to direct state affairs continuously from any location globally.

The Senate President’s remarks follow public discussions generated by the extension of the President’s scheduled leave while Vice President Shettima represented Nigeria at the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
