Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), PETER OBI, has called on President BOLA TINUBU to resign, alleging that his administration has failed to address the country’s mounting economic and security challenges.

OBI made the call in a statement posted on his X account yesterday, where he reflected on reports surrounding the resignation announcement of British Prime Minister KEIR STARMER, describing it as an example of accountability in public office.

The former Anambra State governor, democratic leadership requires public officials to take responsibility when they fail to meet the expectations and promises made to citizens.

Drawing comparisons with Nigeria’s political history, OBI recalled that before assuming office, President TINUBU had repeatedly criticized the administration of former President GOODLUCK JONATHAN over insecurity and economic difficulties, including his reaction to the kidnapping of schoolgirls in Chibok, stressing that many issues President TINUBUhad pledged to address have worsened since he assumed office, particularly in the areas of electricity supply, anti-corruption efforts and improving citizens’ welfare..

OBI argued that the current state of affairs demands accountability from the nation’s leadership and urged the President to consider stepping down, adding that holding leaders accountable for their performance would strengthen democratic institutions and reinforce the principle that public office is a trust that must be earned and sustained through service.
