Another batch of Nigerians evacuated from South Africa over ongoing anti-migrant violence arrived safely at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, today.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, BIANCA ODUMEGWU-OJUKWU, in a statement posted on her X handle, announced that an Air Peace charter flight conveyed 268 returnees, alongside two officers and crew members, from Johannesburg to Lagos.

The minister highlighted that President BOLA TINUBU directed the evacuation exercise to continue despite the expiration of the June 30 ultimatum issued by anti-migrant groups in South Africa.

She recalled that three earlier evacuation flights had already returned nearly 600 Nigerians before the deadline, adding that the exercise remains ongoing for all citizens who voluntarily registered and completed the screening process.

The repatriation followed days of anti-immigrant attacks in parts of South Africa, where black African migrants, including Nigerians, were targeted, prompting the Nigerian government to facilitate their safe return.
