Nigeria’s inflation rate has increased for the third consecutive month, reaching 15.93 percent in May 2026, compared with 15.69 percent recorded in April.
The National Bureau of Statistics disclosed this in its Consumer Price Index and inflation report released today, noting that inflation rose by 1.75 percent on a month-on-month basis in May.
The report also revealed that food inflation climbed to 16.96 percent in May, from 16.06 percent recorded in the preceding month.
On a year-on-year basis, the headline inflation rate stood at 15.93 percent, higher than the 15.69 percent recorded in April 2026, but lower than the 26.06 percent posted in May 2025.
It will be recalled that the headline inflation rate declined in both March and April.
