The National Emergency Management Agency has announced plans to undertake extensive sensitisation campaigns in selected council areas of Anambra, Ebonyi and Enugu states following projections for flooding in 2026.

The Information Officer of NEMA’s Enugu Operations Office, EZEANI NNANYELUGO, made this known in Enugu over the weekend, stating that the agency, in collaboration with partners and relevant stakeholders, would implement comprehensive awareness programmes across the affected states.

NNANYELUGO explained that the initiative was prompted by the 2026 Seasonal Climate Prediction issued by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency and the Annual Flood Outlook released by the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency on February 10 and April 15, respectively.

He noted that the agency had already begun public awareness efforts on the forecasts through television, radio and online platforms, adding that flood sensitisation activities, including drills and simulation exercises, would be conducted in major flood-prone council areas.

He further stated that the Director General of NEMA, ZUBAIDA UMAR, had reiterated the agency’s resolve to deepen collaboration with international humanitarian organisations, including KSRelief, the World Food Programme and the International Organisation for Migration, to improve service delivery and provide support for vulnerable populations nationwide.
