A Hollywood director, Carl Erik Rinsch has been arrested and charged with misappropriating studio funds meant for a sci-fi series to purchase luxury cars, cryptocurrency, and high-end bedding for personal use.

The 47 year old who is best known for the 2013 film, 47 Ronin, has been charged with federal fraud and money laundering related to 11 million dollars he was given by Netflix to create a series called, White Horse.

Prosecutors chaired by Matthew Podolsky claimed that between 2018 to 2019, the streaming giant gave Rinsch an initial budget of 44 Million dollars to film the show, but he allegedly never completed a single episode and in March 2020, Netflix sent him another 11 million dollars after he argued that the initial budget was not sufficient.

However, the US Justice Department said the Hollywood director, instead of using the funds for the series, he allegedly transferred them to his personal bank accounts and used it to invest in several risky financial ventures.
