Governor ADEMOLA ADELEKE has pardoned and released 53 convicts serving various convictions within the Nigerian Correctional Service, including Segun Olowookere who was sentenced to death for armed robbery in Osun State.

The governor, in a statement by his spokesperson, OLAWALE RASHEED said his actions were in line with the recommendations of the State Advisory Council on Prerogative of Mercy.

He said the claim that Olowookere and his accomplice got a death sentence for stealing a fowl , which went viral on social media was wrong but clarified that they were convicted for armed robbery, including robbing a poultry in 2010.

The letter of commutation dated December 24, 2024, which has since been received and acknowledged by the relevant prison authorities noted that the inmates were convicted to various terms of imprisonment and have spent a minimum of 10 years in custody or convicted to death.
