Governor of Oyo state, SEYI MAKINDE has declared that the creation of state police in Nigeria is long overdue, stressing that the initiative would significantly strengthen the country’s security architecture and help tackle rising insecurity.

MAKINDE made the remarks while speaking during the primary elections of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) held in Ibadan on Thursday, where he appealed to the federal government under the leadership of President BOLA TINUBU to expedite action on the establishment of state police without further delay.

He noted that the current security challenges facing the country require stronger localized policing structures capable of responding quickly and effectively to threats within various states.

He added that state police would empower states with better operational capacity to address insecurity and protect lives and property within their jurisdictions.
