The Ghanaian government has announced plans to sanction television stations that air Nigerian films without authorisation.

Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana National Film Authority, JAMES GARDINER, disclosed that the government is working with relevant agencies to address the illegal broadcast of Nollywood movies by some television stations.

GARDINER made the disclosure during a conversation with Nigerian filmmaker UCHENNA MBUNABO, who accused some Ghanaian broadcasters of downloading films from YouTube and airing them without permission.

He said the proposed measures include revoking the licences of defaulting television stations and requiring them to reapply, adding that the process is expected to be completed by 2027.
