FEDERAL GOVERNMENT MOVES TO PREVENT EBOLA ENTRY THROUGH AIRPORTS AND BORDERS

The Federal Ministry of Interior has announced new measures aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s preparedness against the Ebola virus disease despite the absence of any confirmed case in the country.

The development was disclosed in a statement shared on the official page of the Minister of Interior, OLUBUNMI TUNJI-OJO, notingthat the Ministry is prioritising stricter border control measures and enhanced screening procedures at airports, seaports, and land borders across the country.

The minister further disclosed that the government is collaborating with the Nigeria Immigration Service, the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, and other relevant agencies to improve surveillance and monitoring at all entry points into Nigeria.

According to the statement, the minister joined other top government officials and emergency response stakeholders at a high-level preparedness meeting held in Lagos and coordinated by the president’s chief of staff, FEMI GBAJABIAMILA, involving key agencies, including the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC), security agencies, and health authorities.
