The Federal Government has approved the increase of the monthly allowance of the members of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, from 33,000 Naira to 77,000 Naira which took effect from July 2024.

This was disclosed in a statement through the acting Director of Information and Public Relations, NYSC, Caroline Embu, affirming that the increment of monthly allowance of corps members is in line with the enactment of the National Minimum Wage Amendment Act 2024.

Embu cited a letter from the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission, dated September 25, 2024, and signed by Chairman Ekpo Nta, revealing that the Director General of NYSC, Brigadier General Y.D. Ahmed, had paid an advocacy visit to the chairman of the commission and solicited a robust welfare package for corps members.

The statement conveyed that the NYSC boss expressed gratitude to the Federal Government for the timely support and was optimistic that the increase would not only provide much-needed relief to corps members but also enhance their morale and motivate them to contribute even more in their service to the nation.
