An explosion at a mining site in Sabon Pegi, within the Mashegun Local Government Area of Niger State, has claimed the lives of four individuals and left several others injured.

The blast occurred yesterday morning as miners were resuming their work at the site.

While the exact cause of the explosion is yet to be determined, residents of Sabon Pegi have speculated that improper handling of explosives by mining companies may have contributed to the incident.

Eyewitnesses say that four bodies have been recovered from the blast site, though the full extent of the casualties remains unclear, and additional victims are feared dead.

Authorities are yet to make formal comments on the matter.
