The government of Enugu State has expressed dissatisfaction at the manner some petroleum dealers in the state shortchange citizens by adjusting their meters wrongly and dispensing fuel inaccurately, warning that any filing stationinvolved in such practices would be penalized.
The Commissioner for Special Duties, Emeka Ajogu made this known yesterday when he paid an impromptu visit to some petrol filling stations in the Enugu metropolis to ascertain the alleged meter short-change by filling station owners in the state, where it was confirmed that none of the filling stations sells with accurate metering system including the major distributing stations.
In interviews with some customers, they applauded the state government for the steps taken and appealed that the action should be regularly, adding that the Government should also monitor the quality of fuel being sold because some dealers sell adulterated products
Ajogu told newsmen that the state Government received complaints from some citizens that they were shortchanged at petrol filing stations, even with the high cost of the product, and that informed the decision to visit stations for confirmation.
Urban Radio Correspondent, Ifenyinwa Ogbue reported that all the filling stations visited yesterday, adjusted their meters and sold between 600 Naira- 620 Naira per liter, respectively, and was confirmed that for every Twenty liters of petrol bought by consumers, they were shortchanged 768.60 Naira, 702 Naira, 682 Naira, 575 Naira, 441.60 Naira, 480Naira, 256.2 Naira.
