The Edo State Government has directed the temporary shutdown of three public secondary schools in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area following security concerns.
In a circular dated June 9, 2026, the Edo State Ministry of Education announced that the affected schools namely, Ososo Grammar School, Ososo Comprehensive High School, and Makeke Secondary School, were closed after the Edo State Command of the Department of State Services, DSS raised a security alert over an alleged plot by suspected bandits to carry out mass abductions of students in the Edo North Senatorial District.
The circular, signed by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Enodo-lomwanyi Otamere, was addressed to the principals of the affected schools.
The ministry, however, stated that students currently sitting for the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination, WASSCE would be permitted to take their examinations under enhanced security measures.
