The Executive Development Education Centre DEC in Enugu State Cecilia Asogwa has called for more participation in politics and governance through deliberate legislation for the overall development of society.
Asogwa who made this call at the 34th Annual Convention of Development Education Centre stated DEC would study the manifestoes of political parties, especially those that have given opportunities to women to contest for elective positions in their various parties and partner with them.
Speaking further on what DEC has been doing partnering with Royal fathers in the area of Community Governance Structure Asogwa revealed that twenty out of twenty-five communities have officially instituted women as members of Igwe’s cabinets.
Earlier in his opening remarks, the chairman of the occasion, the chairman Board of Internal Revenue, Enugu State, Emeka Odo praised Asogwa for her deep commitment to the development and empowerment of women through the DEC skill acquisition, entrepreneurial programs for out-of-school female youths as well as providing community based young mothers initiatives that have benefitted hundreds of women in Enugu, Abia, and Kogi States.
Urban Radio Correspondent, Emeka Chibuoke said the highlight of the event was the presentation of prizes and awards to deserving students and participants.
