Nigerian comedian and actor BOVI has disclosed that he deliberately turned down a number of movie roles in the early stage of his career to prevent him from being restricted to one type of character.
The 46-year-old entertainer said he had made up his mind as a teenager that he would not allow the industry to define him by a single character, noting that although playing stereotypical roles can provide financial rewards, he wanted to explore different sides of his abilities and continues to decline roles that do not fit his career direction.
He said those who deliberately choose to build a career around a particular stereotype can still succeed, depending on their talent and determination, while encouraging creatives to make themselves appealing enough for opportunities to naturally come their way.
