Armed bandits have intercepted a passenger vehicle along the highway leading to Isa Local Government Area of Sokoto State, opening fire and killing all occupants on board.

The commuters were returning from Sokoto city, where several of the passengers had attended a document verification and screening exercise for newly recruited state government workers.

AMBUSH TARGETS RECRUITED WORKERS RETURNING FROM STATE CAPITAL

Reports from conflict analysts and local sources indicate that the assailants ambushed the commercial vehicle in transit, leaving no survivors before security personnel could intervene:

  • Victims Returning from Screening: Among those killed were individuals recently recruited under the Sokoto State Government’s 3,000-person employment scheme who had traveled to the state capital for administrative processing.

  • Casualties & Retrieval: Community members and local search parties recovered the bodies from the scene for burial, with local sources indicating over a dozen fatalities as search efforts continue for missing travellers along the corridor.

  • Rising Highway Insecurity: The violent ambush underscores growing security challenges along transit routes connecting eastern Sokoto local government areas to the state capital.

OFFICIAL RESPONSE PENDING

As of press time, military and police authorities in Sokoto State have not issued an official statement confirming the exact casualty figure or the tactical operations underway to secure the axis.

Joint security outfits operating in the North-West zone have reportedly intensified patrol operations along the Isa-Sabon Birni highway to track down the armed group.
