Nigerian university lecturers, represented by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), are threatening a strike due to the Federal Government’s failure to meet its obligations.  ASUU rejected the government-proposed Tertiary Institution Support Survival Fund (TISSF) loan program as insufficient and a delaying tactic, citing outstanding salary payments, unfulfilled agreements from 2009, underfunding of universities, and infringement on university autonomy.  A crucial meeting is scheduled for August 28, 2025, to potentially avert a strike that would significantly disrupt academic life nationwide.  The outcome of this meeting will determine whether the strike proceeds.
