At least 10 Nigerian soldiers, five civilians, and a forest guard have been killed after armed militants launched a coordinated assault and overran a military base in Borno State.
The attack targeted a military position in the Guzamala Local Government Area. Security and local sources confirmed that the insurgents overwhelmed the facility overnight, setting fire to military equipment and seizing assets before security forces could stabilize the area.
The surprise assault triggered an extended firefight, leaving multiple personnel and civilians dead, alongside widespread destruction of operational infrastructure:
Casualties Reported: Security sources confirmed the death of 10 frontline soldiers, five civilians, and a forest guard, with over 20 others sustaining varying degrees of injuries.
Pre-Attack Raid: Prior to targeting the military post, the militants seized over 40 fishing vessels from a nearby lakeside village in Tumbun Barebari.
Destruction of Facilities: Attackers looted weapons and ammunition, torched operational vehicles, and set fire to structures within the base.
Military authorities have not yet issued a formal confirmation or official statement regarding the casualty figures or the extent of the damage.
Spokespersons for Operation Hadin Kai and the Nigerian Army were not immediately available for comment, though counter-insurgency reinforcement teams have reportedly been deployed to secure the axis and track the fleeing assailants.
