JNPSNC THREATENS THREE-DAY WARNING STRIKE FROM OCTOBER 2 OVER PETROL PRICES AND WAGE DEMANDS

Public sector workers under the umbrella of the Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council (JNPSNC) have reaffirmed plans to embark on a three-day nationwide warning strike beginning Friday, October 2, if the Federal Government fails to meet their demands regarding soaring fuel costs, wage awards, and minimum wage negotiations.

Addressing journalists in Abuja, Comrade Gbenga Olowoyo, National Secretary of the JNPSNC and General Secretary of the Nigeria Civil Service Union, issued a firm ultimatum following the expiration of the council’s September 30 deadline.

The council is demanding an immediate intervention by the Federal Government to reduce the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) to N500 per litre to alleviate severe economic hardship across the country. In addition, the labour leaders are calling for an immediate financial wage award for public servants to help buffer rising inflation, alongside the urgent establishment of a tripartite committee to commence talks on a new national minimum wage.

The union leadership emphasized that starting minimum wage discussions early will prevent administrative delays and ensure a smooth transition before the next legal wage review cycle.

The JNPSNC noted that public sector union members nationwide remain on standby to withdraw their services across federal ministries, departments, and agencies starting October 2 should the President’s Independence Day address or official government channels fail to deliver concrete resolutions.
