The Federal Government of Nigeria has dismissed claims alleging that Nigeria and the Economic Community of West African States, (ECOWAS), supported the failed attempted coup in Niger Republic, describing the allegations as false and misleading.

The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs,  SOLA ENIKANOLAYE, made this known in a statement, arguing that the claims circulating on social media were aimed at misleading the public and damaging Nigeria’s reputation.

ENIKANOLAYE reaffirmed Nigeria’s opposition to unconstitutional changes of government, stressing that the country would not endorse the use of force in settling political disagreements, regardless of where such situations occur.

He recalled that Nigeria had earlier expressed concern over the situation in Niger in a statement issued on August 30, calling for a peaceful and inclusive return to constitutional governance.
