SUPER FALCONS MISS 2027 FIFA WOMEN’S WORLD CUP AFTER DEFEAT TO SOUTH AFRICA

Nigeria’s Super Falcons have been eliminated from the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup after suffering a 2-1 defeat to South Africa in the qualifying play-off in Casablanca, Morocco.

The outcome ends Nigeria’s unbroken record of featuring in every edition of the tournament since its inception in 1991.

South Africa broke the deadlock in the 56th minute before doubling their advantage in the 77th minute.

The setback marks a significant blow to the ten-time African champions, who had been seeking another appearance on the global stage.

In the same vein, Super Falcons coach, JUSTINE MADUGU, have apologised to Nigerians following the team’s failure to qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup, admitting that the team’s poor performance contributed to their defeat to South Africa.

MADUGU made the assertion during a post-match interview with newsmen after the  Falcons lost in the Confederation of African Football play-off at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco  yesterday.

Although MADUGU said the failure was not intentional, he attributed what he described as the team’s goal-scoring problem to what undermined their ability to win the match. However, he promised a better performance next season.
