ARMY RESCUES ABDUCTED LIEUTENANT COLONEL AND CIVILIAN IN ENUGU STATE 

Troops of the Nigerian Army have successfully rescued a kidnapped senior military officer, Lieutenant Colonel OFOR AMOBI, and a civilian, IKECHUKWU ONWUANRA, following a 10-day joint search-and-rescue operation in Enugu State.

A military operational report made available to newsmen stated that the victims were rescued after sustained pressure from security forces compelled their abductors to abandon them.

The report explained that troops of Sector 1 of Operation UDO KA, made up of personnel from the 82 Division Garrison, 103 Battalion, the Nigerian Navy Special Boat Service and the 197 Special Forces Battalion, carried out intensive search operations across forests and communities in Oji River Local Government Area.

The military disclosed that intelligence provided by the Divisional Police Officer of Inyi Division led troops to the victims, who were discovered with gunshot wounds at the edge of a forest in Inyi before being evacuated to the 82 Division Medical Hospital for medical treatment.

It further stated that preliminary findings indicated the victims had been blindfolded, taken to an undisclosed location and later abandoned along the Enugu-Anambra border, adding that more details of the operation would be released at a later time.
